Heaven was largely positively received by music critics. The video was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award in the Best Cinematography category. In the video, Adams presents his ballad at a concert behind him are screens where Adam's band is playing. The music video was shot in Vancouver in the summer of 1985. While writing Heaven, Adams and Vallance were influenced by Journey's music. On the same day that the studio recording ended, Smith took over from Curry as drummer for the recordings of Adams. The recording of Heaven were with Steve Smith finished the drummer of Journey. So it was decided not to include Heaven in the final version of the album, but at the last moment Adams changed his mind and Heaven made it onto the record.ĭuring the Heaven recording session, drummer Mickey Curry ended his collaboration with Adams because he liked the studio recordings with Hall & Oates better. Iovine thought the song was too "nice" for the album. The final version of the song was recorded on June 6 at Avatar Studios (better known as Power Station Studios) in New York and then released on the film soundtrack.Īdams thought at the time that Heaven didn't go well with the album Reckless, which was recorded a year later, and producer Jimmy Iovine, who worked very closely with Adams at the time, was of the same opinion.
